SASBCP 50th anniversary – 50 years of pharmacology in South Africa

From humble beginnings in 1966 to a respected international role player and eminent leader on the African continent, the South African Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (SASBCP) has evolved to celebrate 50 years of pharmacology this year at the 2016 South African Annual Congress in October, in conjunction with the All Africa Congress of Pharmacology and Pharmacy. SASBCP will be joined by the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, TOXSA (Toxicology Society of South Africa) and will also celebrate the 10th year of the PharfA initiative (Pharmacology for Africa).
The 2016 All Africa Congress promises to provide an exciting and intellectually stimulating programme of presentations featuring researchers in both basic and clinical pharmacology in South Africa, the broader African continent and globally. The 50th anniversary celebrations culminate in the Gala Dinner on Friday night, with awarding of honorary life memberships.
Find out more about SASBCP’s history in the June 2016 issue of Pharmacology International (IUPHAR’s semi-annual newsletter, p. 26), which looks back over 50 years of success in pharmacology in South Africa, highlighting the key leaders in SASBCP whose contributions developed and nurtured the pharmacological sciences in South Africa.
