Clinical Pharmacology
as a Specialy in Medicine in South Africa

The South African Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology wishes to congratulate Prof Maartens and his team with their achievements in realising the recognition of 'Clinical Pharmacology' as a specialty in Medicine! The Society strongly supported this initiative on behalf of its members. Here is the latest information as received from Prof Maartens on 31 March 2009:

The College of Clinical Pharmacologists has now been constituted with the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) This is an important step in the development of clinical pharmacology as a specialty in medicine, which has been accepted by both CMSA and the Health Professions Council of South Africa. The college will soon be in a position to offer examinations for clinical pharmacologists, which is a crucial step in the accreditation of individual specialists.
